As reported by Ryan Jeltema of ABC 12 News, Bendle Public Schools has received a nearly $26,000 grant to increase Michigan-grown food in its cafeterias through the Good Food for Michigan Project.
The grant will help the district develop relationships with local farmers, provide staff training and upgrade kitchen equipment.
The funding comes from the Good Food for Michigan Project, a partnership between the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Center for Good Food Purchasing and Michigan State University Center for Regional Food Systems.
“This investment from the Good Food project will give our district the tools we need to provide fresh food to our learning community,” said Dawn Pully, Bendle’s food service director.
